Editing/Adding an Item

July 19th, 2009 — 10:09pm

Each item can have lots of information. All of this information is optional. Each tab is described below. The name of the item can be changed from any tab.

itemedit_content

The content editing tab allows you to change the text that is displayed for an item. When an item gets generated with the current template, it creates it by putting the following objects in order:

  • Headline 1
  • Image 1
  • Feature Content
  • Image 2
  • Image 3
  • Image 4

We will be creating new templates and user editable templates in the very near future.

itemedit_rating

The Rating and Date tab allow you to set a rating for the item and a date for an item, if it is an event. Currently, end users cannot rate items. You control the rating for the item. This is useful for sites that are publishing a catalog of items with ratings specified somewhere else. In the future, we may add the ability to have end users rate items.

If a Date is specified, it will allow the user to browse items by when they are occurring.

itemedit_address

Next is the Address tab. You should enter in any address information if this item has a location associated with it. This will let the application show the user where the item is on a map and how far away they are from the item. You can also name the address as a Venue. When you do this, you’ll be able to type the Venue name in on other items and the address information will automatically fill in.

itemedit_links

This tab allows you to change the links for the item. The images are shown inline when the item is published. If you specifiy an Audio Link, it will be played in the application. If you specify a YouTube link or a Web Link, there will be a video button shown on the bottom of the toolbar. When you specify a valid YouTube URL, this will also show a thumbnail from the video.

itemedit_subcat

The final tab allows you to assign subcategory values to an item. You have the option to dropdown and view existing subcategory values, or just type in a new one, and that will be automatically added to the subcategory selections.

After you’ve created or edited your item, you can save them item by pressing the Save Item button. This will automatically update the list of items.
